What Bronx apartment buildings need from a cleaner

Walk any side street off the Grand Concourse and you'll count more brick walk-ups than houses. A lot of the Bronx went up before the war, and older buildings hold dirt where a newer one doesn't. Plaster walls carry years of paint. Radiators collect dust deep behind the fins, and wood floors wear soft at the seams where grime packs in. A quick wipe misses most of it.

Those radiators matter more than people think. When the heat kicks on in the fall, the dust baked onto them burns off and settles on every sill and shelf in the room. Renovation dust spreads far in older buildings

Cut into old plaster and brick and you get a gray powder far finer than sawdust. Plenty of Bronx apartments and storefronts are being gutted and rebuilt right now, and that powder goes everywhere. It drifts under doors and into rooms nobody touched. It sits on every flat surface the contractor didn't cover. A broom just throws it back into the air.
